Keypoint Law expands its renewable energy expertise with the appointment of Consulting Principal

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Want as a Consulting Principal in Sydney.

Andrew is a senior lawyer with extensive expertise across renewable energy, energy markets, data privacy, AI governance, and complex regulatory environments. He brings more than three decades of experience spanning private practice, senior executive leadership and board roles and major reform initiatives in highly regulated sectors.

Andrew’s career began in private legal practice, initially in Queensland then in New South Wales.  Andrew spent ten years at a leading Sydney mid‑tier firm, Cowley Hearne, including six years as a partner leading the firm’s Property Law practice alongside an significant Commercial Law practice and, ultimately, leading a major, multi-year infrastructure privatisation project spanning regulatory reform, property, corporate, commercial and environmental law.

Moving into the corporate sector, Andrew held senior executive roles in ASX/NZX‑listed and multinational organisations, including serving as CEO and Managing Director of Veda Advantage (now Equifax Australia) and Managing Director for Travelex across Australasia and Japan.

Andrew’s tenure at Veda developed his expertise in data, privacy and automated decisioning technologies, underpinned by his leadership in negotiations with Australian and New Zealand Privacy Commissioners that contributed to reform of Australia’s credit data information system.

For over 15 years, Andrew has been deeply engaged in renewable energy and energy reform.  He brings significant experience in renewable energy development and construction, energy networks and infrastructure, energy storage and green fuels. He recently completed a four‑year tenure as Country CEO and Australian General Counsel for a European renewable energy business, leading both commercial and legal strategy and operations.

Returning to legal practice, Andrew will advise clients across renewables, energy storage and infrastructure, energy markets, data privacy and AI regulation, and broader strategic regulatory matters, bringing a deep, practical understanding of the challenges faced by organisations operating in dynamic and highly regulated environments.
